The AKD (Advanced Kollmorgen Drive) is made to be user-friendly, featuring fast current and velocity loops. It comes with a WorkBench graphical interface to make setup easy. Kollmorgen servomotors can be used without needing extra setup.
Key Features and Benefits
- Ease of Use: Simple to use with plug-and-play motor setup and an intuitive graphical interface.
- Performance: Delivers fast current and velocity loops for high throughput.
- Connectivity: Offers versatile connectivity options and a robust design.
- Saves Time: It helps to set up things faster and reduce downtime.
Wiring and Connections
For training purposes, the AKD Servo Drive can be wired to a 115VAC power source. The base plate includes circuit breakers, a 24VDC power supply, an emergency stop button, and terminal strips for easy connections. Digital I/O connections are made using connectors X7 & X8, which can be configured for sinking or sourcing.
Digital Inputs and Outputs
Digital Inputs 1 & 2 are high-speed, while 3 to 7 are standard. Inputs can be programmed in WorkBench with various modes depending on the application. Filters can be added to manage mechanical switch bounce. Polarity can be changed, but caution is advised as it can cause unexpected motion.
WorkBench Software
WorkBench software is used to set up and program the drive. Key features include:
- Plug-and-Play compatibility with Kollmorgen motors
- Digital Signal Processor Control
- Optically Isolated I/O
- High Current Loop & Velocity Loop Bandwidth
IP Address Configuration
The AKD uses TCP/IP for communication via Ethernet. The IP address can be set automatically (DHCP) or statically using rotary switches S1 and S2. For static IP, the address is set to 192.168.0x1x2, where x1 and x2 are determined by the switch settings.
Tuning
Tuning helps to have the servo system function properly. The AKD provides tools like the Slider Tuner and Performance Servo Tuner for both automatic and manual tuning. Good mechanical systems are essential for optimal servo performance.
Motion Task
Before performing a position move, the home position must be set. WorkBench offers fifteen homing methods based on the application. Motion tasks include absolute and relative moves, which are application-dependent.
Electronic Gearing
Electronic gearing connects two axes digitally, with one leader and one or more followers. The AKD can be set up as either, but not both. Connector X9 provides a one-to-one connection, while X7 can be used for 24-volt signals from a third-party controller.
